Job Summary:

The functional role of the Afternoon Shift Distribution Supervisor at Kawartha Metals Corp. is to oversee and work alongside Material Handlers and Machine Operators with daily pulling and processing of orders that are to be shipped and/or picked up by customers. They will be responsible for overseeing and assisting in loading trucks in the evening and performing quality checks before the end of shift. Keeping open communication with all other departments with regards to order status, decision making, and health and safety.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for the complete and accurate loading of outgoing trucks.

·         Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions.

·         Employee management for Afternoon Shift Distribution employees.  Including interviewing, onboarding, and training.

·         Distribution employees have been trained and work in compliance with the general safety rules.

·         Ensuring staff are adhering to standard operating procedures.

·         Leading by example pulling orders and loading trucks on a daily basis.

·         Other responsibilities as assigned by management.

Duties/Responsibilities:

·         Assess truck loading status to decide whether to assist with truck loading or truck checking daily.

o   Perform quality check on outgoing trucks referencing the Truck Checking Procedure.

o   Assist Material Handlers with pulling material.

·         Review next day outgoing orders with the Logistic Supervisor and Day Shift Distribution Supervisor to coordinate a plan of action for the day.

·         Conduct a Distribution Shift Change-Over Meeting.

·         Locate and stage processed orders from production.

·         Complete quality checks on all material.

·         Inspect packaging for proper securement.

·         Communicate backorders to Sales and Purchasing.

·         Communicate with Production Supervisor/Scheduler of missing cut orders.

·         Communicate with the day shift on a daily basis (status of orders/boards, incoming trucks, absences, etc.).

·         Submit a daily update email to the sales/management/logistics team on the outline provided.

·         Assist in maintaining cleanliness of the warehouse and yard. Complete employee performance evaluations on an annual basis for those personnel reporting directly to the Distribution Supervisor.

·         Adhere to all policies and procedures of the organization.

·         Obligation to participate on health and safety activities such as the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

·         Other duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills/Abilities:

·         Verbal and written communication.

·         Knowledge of the metal and steel industry.

·         Interpersonal and customer service skills

·         Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

·         Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

·         Record of strong attendance is mandatory.

·         Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

·         Organizational skills and high attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

·         High school diploma or equivalent

·         3-5 years supervisory experience

·         3-5 years experience in a wholesale/resale environment

Physical Requirements:

·         Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

·         Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions:

·         Exposure to moderate noise and varying weather conditions.

·         Shift Monday to Friday 3pm to 12am.

·         Rotating with fellow supervision/ management to run Saturday shifts.
