Inspecting Your Workplace (1/2 day)

Workplace inspections are a core activity within a functioning health and safety program. When properly carried out, workplace inspections can help you proactively identify and address hazards before they contribute to costly incidents. This course helps you to meet your legal requirements and improve your ability to effectively inspect your workplace.

Topics include:

  • The purpose of and legal requirements for conducting inspections
  • Types of workplace inspections
  • What hazards are and the types
  • How to recognize, assess, control and evaluate (RACE) hazards
  • The steps in a workplace inspection
  • Conduct a practice inspection

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Complete effective workplace inspections with the proper knowledge, skills and tools
  • Ensure that existing health and safety policies, procedures, and hazard controls are checked and working well

Investigating Accidents and Incidents (1/2 day)

This course covers the purpose and benefits of an investigation, legal reporting requirements, and proven steps and techniques for conducting effective investigations. The investigation of accidents and incidents is a core activity within a functional health and safety program. When an investigation is done well, it helps a company to identify and address the deficiencies that contributed to the incident and prevent costly recurrences in the future. This course equips workplace parties with the essential knowledge, skills and tools to conduct investigations and prevent costly recurrences.

Topics include:

  • How to prevent workplace accidents/incidents
  • How to stay in compliance with the law
  • Due diligence

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand investigation principles and techniques
  • Identify relevant legal requirements for investigations
  • Understand the steps in investigations and the skills required
  • Practice conducting an investigation and writing a report
